From the Desk of Julie Laufer |
Hello Friends,Well folks, we’re starting off the year with a lot of change on the horizon: considering this is an election year(yikes, don’t bring up politics, Julie) there is bound to be a shift in the job market. Investors hate change, and as such, stock prices drop, recruiters hunker down to more conservative hiring practices, and as a result, new jobs become scarce. That being said, we’re not there right now, and as is evidenced everywhere, the price tag for the talented professional Executive Assistant continues to hit an all-time high. Riding on this coattail, I’d encourage all job searchers to lock in a new job before too soon as we may see that shift before the height of the summer. Strike while the iron’s hot, I’d say!
Warmest wishes,

Success Story of the Month – Shani Walker |
I came to Julie Laufer and team during an unfortunate time in my life. The company for which I was working was rapidly going out of business. They shut their doors without notice and without following through with their employees. Amidst all of the stress and worry, I found comfort in how easy it was to rely on Julie and her team.In my first meeting with Julie, she helped me to realize that I had much more talent than I thought. She pored over my resume and showed me what more I could add to make it stronger and create a better reflection of what I have to offer. From the very beginning, she was supportive and helpful; she helped me to build my confidence in preparation for my job search ahead. I loved how Julie and her team made sure to call or email me before any interview to check in and see if they could answer any question or if I needed any additional last-minute prep. I looked forward to talking to them after my interviews.I wasn’t afraid to be honest because I know my feedback helped give them insight to the opportunities that would be the right match for me. They kept me in mind until they found a great opportunity for me. Julie was definitely an advocate for my interests, and by knowing that, I knew I could trust her, and she was just as excited as I was to bring me the good news.
And the finishing touch was the wonderful welcome gift they send me on my first day! It made me feel like they were proud of me. I couldn’t have made it through the job search struggle without Julie or the team! |
Temp of the Month – Carol “Coco” Murphy Edberg |
Retirement is great! Actually, retirement is boring…After working in a fast-paced jobin the Marketing Department of a major, financial institution for 35years, retirement left me wanting more. My loving husband backed me up, thinking it was a good move for me to re-enter the workforce; my little dog “Murphy” was not so sure. So, I trundled off to Laufer and Associates for some help in trying to fill up my days. After being out of the work force for a few years, I knew that I would need support and positive help with my self confidence. At Laufer and Associates I found it! Julie Laufer invited me in with open arms and supported me tremendously, as did her wonderful associate, Cristin. They suggested that I go in gently, and consider temping, to fill the void without putting too much on my plate; and they were right as I did not want to return to full-time work due to my commitments at home. They placed me in a wonderful company and I was on my way, and since then I have enjoyed temping on a regular basis for various companies in Boston. Now, working with Kat Glidden has been an additional treat.
I could not have done it without their support and confidence in me. It has been about a year now and I continue to look forward to each assignment.
Thank you Laufer and Associates!

“Executive Assistant – New Power Job” USA Today |
The truth is that the Executive Assistant role has expanded beyond the conventional image of the old school secretary. Today’s Executive Assistants take on complex project management, event planning, budgeting, and are involved in strategic planning, often work directly alongside the executives they support; the fact is it takes “thick skin” to be a talented EA.According to the USA Today story, more highly educated people are using support jobs as a launchpad into the wider business world. “EAs increasingly attended top schools for undergrads and even have advanced degrees – MBAs, master’s, even the occasional Ph.D., says Nicole Budovec, a recruiting manager at GoPro.” Executive Assistants work hard, take on complex tasks, and as a result we are seeing an increase in their salaries and compensation.
The article also states that, “Top recruiters say the base salary for EAs in the Valley (California) now starts around $60,000 and goes up fast from there. Junior EAs, supporting managers or engineers, might make around $110,000, while those supporting the C-suite rake in as much as $200,000, plus bonuses and equity.” That’s several tens of thousands of dollars more per year than the same job title was earning several years ago!
Now, in 2016, we are already seeing an increase in the demand for rock star EAs and Boston companies are willing to pay the big bucks to get the best of the best.
