Success Story |

Melissa Brown
"After growing up in Massachusetts and going to college in Boston, I ended up spending five years living in San Francisco and New York. When I moved back home last year, I decided to not only move back but also change my career path. I was a bit lost at first and randomly happened to meet up with Julie at Laufer and Associates. After an hour of meeting with her, I felt like I finally had direction again and knew what I was going to do. She helped me to really look at what I wanted for my next career – and my next job. She really listened to everything I had to say and was easily able to make sense of my confusion. She immediately had me working in various temp positions, in order to confirm her intuition of what my next career path should be.
She was so right! She managed to figure out exactly what I was looking for and always called with my best intentions at heart. Given the other recruiters I had worked with, this always meant a lot to me. After a few months of temping, she found me a great position working in Boston. I feel so lucky to spend every day with an amazing team at an amazing company. I couldn't be happier! I could not have done this without the guidance and support from Julie and Cristin. I believe this role could be a great role for me for years to come, so while I hope to not need Julie's professional expertise again (which I consider to be the best compliment a recruiter could receive), I have definitely been recommending her to every job seeker I know!"

"I am extremely pleased with my continued experiences with Laufer and Associates.
Originally, I worked with Julie's team at Laufer and Associates a number of years ago on various assignments. After a stretch of time Julie reached out to me and presented me with an opportunity. Unfortunately I was unable to accept due to my commitment to another assignment I was on at the time. Once I completed my assignment, I immediately reached out to Julie for help with my job search. Within days, the firm was able to find a perfect fit for my interests and skill set. Before I started the job, Cristin was very professional and collegial in inviting me into the office to prep me for my first day.
Cristin and Julie always do a great job of checking in with me on my job search, as well as informing me regarding positions that may be a good fit or of interest to me. Moreover, Laufer and Associates has constantly given me the opportunity to link and network with other professionals in numerous industries. I would recommend this firm to anyone interested in expanding his/her job search, and in working with a staff that genuinely cares about the people, employer and employee, whom they try to help. Cristin and Julie, thank you for your assistance over the years, I greatly appreciate it."

Does Your Personality Fit Your Job? |
Have you ever figured out you aren't compatible with someone you have been friends with for years? You continue to have argument after argument, only to realize that you have completely different personalities? All of us have a personality type–some very different from others. In fact, according to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, there are 16 different personality possibilities.
According to careermag.com, job searching can bring in a whole realm of emotions, from confidence to extreme anxiety, but the way you manage these emotions depends on your "type". You may be extroverted or introverted, a judger or perceiver, but all of these come into play in your search. The best thing to remember is that your approach to your job search should feel natural, although it may require you to step outside of your comfort zone. Your search preferences are not about what's right or what's wrong, but rather weighing all of your options.
Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out what type of position suits you best. You know what your interests are, you know what your education and experience are in, but you don't feel right in your current job. It can be difficult to figure out what you really want to do. Here are a few examples of different types of personalities and positions that may be fitting.
While you're looking for work, having less social interactions and the desire to be alone would probably appeal to a person with a preference for introversion. This type of person would generally stray away from working in teams or around people. This person should consider looking into roles where there is a lot of self-driven and independent work. Conversely, people who gain their energy by being around others, for support and networking, have a preference for extraversion. This type of person would most likely work best in a visible role, where teamwork is a key aspect of their position.
Another type of preference has to do with judging verses perceiving. The job seeker who prefers judging enjoys being in control and often uses a schedule or planner to map out their search. A role which might be well-suited for this type of person would be an Executive Assistant, where calendar management, travel planning, and projects are a huge part of their role. Individuals who prefer perceiving tend to remain flexible and open to new ideas and information. This type of person might prefer contract or temporary work where they are constantly working on new projects and in new places.
Regardless of your personality type, there are people who are willing and wanting to help you in your search, like us here at Laufer and Associates. Something we pride ourselves on is our ability to match your personality type with the positions we have available. So, next time you find yourself in search of a new job, check in with us and we will assist you with personal and professional growth.

"There's no place like home, there's no place like home." If you're lucky enough to own a pair of magical shoes (or know a great recruiter), you know exactly where you'll end up. For many of us, our jobs are our second homes, so to speak. For others, it's quite the opposite, our homes being the second workplace. Regardless of the way you want to arrange these words, everyone has worked from their home at one point or another. Here are some interesting statistics from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics:
Employed persons worked an average of 7.5 hours on the days they worked. More hours were worked, on average, on weekdays than on weekend days–7.9 hours compared with 5.5 hours.
Many more people worked on weekdays than on a weekend day: 82% of employed persons worked on an average weekday, compared with 35%on an average weekend day.
On the days that they worked, 24% of employed persons did some or all of their work at home.
Self-employed workers were three times more likely than wage and salary workers to have done some work at home.
